Supporting resilience with batteries and EV chargers

StorTera played a key role in helping two of Scotland’s most remote off-grid communities, Knoydart, & the Isle of Eigg, enhance the resilience and sustainability of their local energy systems.

Knoydart and the Isle of Eigg, two of Scotland’s most remote off-grid communities, are not connected to the national grid, and rely on a mix of wind, solar, and hydro power, but face challenges due to isolation, harsh weather, and increasing energy demands.

Through funding from the Scottish Government’s CARES programme, and in collaboration with Local Energy Scotland, StorTera provided specialist hardware and technical expertise to:

  • Integrate battery storage systems

  • Support decarbonisation efforts by reducing diesel reliance

  • Deploy rapid DC EV chargers

  • Support grid stabilisation

  • Enable future renewable expansion and electrification of heating and transport

StorTera’s tailored solutions helped these communities maintain reliable and low-carbon energy supplies while preparing for future growth and climate resilience.
