Smart Energy Network Pilot Deployed

StorTera has successfully deployed a pilot smart energy network at the Friarton Waste Depot in Perth. This pioneering installation, developed in partnership with Perth & Kinross Council, marks a significant milestone in sustainable energy innovation.

Perth & Kinross Council has become the first place in the world to use StorTera's single-liquid spiral-flow battery technology to reduce its carbon footprint.

The system is designed to:

  • Maximise use of on-site solar generation

  • Power smart heating systems, supporting the electrification of heat

  • Enable peer-to-peer energy sharing between council sites

  • Generate revenue by supplying renewable energy to the grid during high demand

This initiative supports the Council’s ambition to reduce carbon emissions, lower energy costs, and tackle fuel poverty. It also serves as a prototype for scalable Local Smart Energy Systems across the region.

Councillor Richard Watters praised the project as a “ground-breaking” step toward making Perth “Europe’s most sustainable small city.”

Brenda Park, COO of StorTera, expressed pride in delivering this first-of-its-kind system and hopes to expand the model across the council area.
